Blinds are window coverings that offer great flexiblility. Their louvers are either horizontal or vertical that can be rotated for light and privacy control. Blinds generally have strings to tilt and lift the louvers.  Materials can vary from wood, vinyl, aluminum and even fabric.

Shades are window treatments that are generally made of a fabric which can be pleated like that of a cellular or pleated shade. They can also be made out of drapery fabric like a roman shade. There have been significant inovations to shades which include lifting mechanisms and opening direction. The old style roller shade still has appeal to some.

Shutters are window treatments that are similiar to blinds due to their use of tiltable louvers for light control and privacy but instead of the louvers being supported by strings the louvers of the shutter are mounted into hinged panels that cover the window. Shutters are also a great way to add architectural interest to a room and look great either painted or stained. They may be opened to admit light and allow a partial view outside while maintaining privacy inside. 

Woven Woods

We have seen a tremendous resurgence of Woven wood shades over the last couple of years. Woven wood shades are probably not for every room but they are a very nice decorative touch for those special rooms. The shades can be made of bamboo, woven grass, wood and decorative threads. They can be either horizontal or vertical and come in paint, stain or natural color. The biggest problem with this product is the large selection making decision making difficult.
