Cellular shades, sometimes called Honeycomb shades, have become one of our most popular shade types. The cellular shade fabrics range from sheer to opaque with the majority of clients selecting something more translucsent allowing beautiful subdued light to enter the room while still providing privacy.
Cellular shades can be configured to open from the top, from the bottom or both. These shades can have lift strings, no strings or can even be motorized.
They can even be used on those hard to cover sliding glass doors.
Cellular shades provide tremendous insulating properties which is so important during these times of high energy costs. It also provides a softer look than blinds. They may not be for every room in your home but should be considered for some appllications like that big window over the garden tub.

There are several varieties of Roman shade. The shade to the left is call a Hobbled Roman shade, the shade directly below is call a Relaxed Roman shade, while the one to the right is the is the Flat Roman.
The standard Roman shade is built on a board which is used as the headrail. It can come in a wide variety of fabrics and materials. It can also have a variety of lifting mechanisms.
One of the greatest drawbacks for the Roman shade is the size of the stack (the amount of fabric which still covers the window when the shade is lifted). HunterDouglas has addressed this with their product named "Vignette". The Vignette is based on the Hobbled roman shade. It uses a cassette that can hold all the fabric when the shade is lifted. The picture to the left shows the cleaner look of the VIgnette compared to the standard Roman shade in the open position.
The Vignette also offers a solution to the problem of the partially opened Roman shade. The pleats of the standard shade become irregular when drawn up while the Vignette pleats remain uniform.
Privacy Sheers
Privacy Sheers are one of the newer products to the window treatment world, although they have been around for over a decade. This type of product could be considered a blind or a shade. They have movable louvers like a blind but they are fabricated from fabric and lift more like a shade. They come in both horizontal and vertical louvers. The best known of these products are those manufacturered by Hunter Douglas including Silhouette, Nantucket, Luminette and Park Lane.
These vertical privacy sheers are quite new to the market. They are such an elegant way to cover those difficult large glass areas. They are able to span extremely large areas while still giving the delicate look of a sheer but providing the privacy of the old style vertical. Although pricey they offer a unique look to a room.
